The heart of an angel that descends upon Earth She treasures the feelings of every relative and friend by her side. She is not in the least critical of people and only concerns herself with the virtues of others and desires that everything would turn out well... Before setting out to interview Nnadia, I had read an article on her whereby the interviewer adopted a writing technique that reflected his ill intentions. He had purposely flaunted Nnadia's admission that she was a lesbian. Outraged by the injustice done to her, I intentionally asked her for her opinion of that interview. What surprised me was that she did not feel that she had been made fun of. Instead, she was satisfied with the article and felt that it presented a fresh look at her. When questioning her, I avoided using the word 'lesbian' as I did not want to be misunderstood as being out to expose her private life. However, her kindness and understanding together with her generous reply soon set me at ease. A desire for everything to turn out well From my understanding, Nnadia does not deny the intimacy that exists between people of the same sex, just like the relationship between sisters. To her, the feelings of every relative and friend are worth treasuring and she will not be critical of anyone. She concerns herself only with the virtues of others and hopes that everything will turn out well. As to whether an interviewer comes to her with the intention of exposing her private life or otherwise, she treasures them all. I recall the qualities of some angels. Angels who come to Earth are not able to attain goodness immediately and their good character are moulded only after having experienced misfortune. When Nnadia talked about her unhappy childhood, her eyes reflected sadness and she was unwilling to say too much. She explained that she was not mature enough to overcome it and that perhaps she will have the courage to openly comment on her past when she is a little older. However, she is thankful to her foster parents and two foster sisters who have given her a warm family and allowed her to walk upon a path that has led to a postitive life. Actually, we need not know another person's unhappy past. From her frank attitude towards the ways of the world and her pursuit of spiritual matters and general knowledge, one can see a kind spirit in her - one that has departed a world sealed in misery and gradually developed a strong and positive life. When she introduced her elder sister BoBo who is in the same industry as her, she was filled with joy, the look of generosity and magnanimity in Nnadia cannot be concealed. A previous life in the Middle East Nnadia believes in God. From a theology-based philosophy and thinking, she believes in a universal God.Without going into the question of who the true God is , every religion has a set of philosophy that teaches kindness and that in itself is good. Nnadia has many friends who are neither Christians nor Catholics, in particular Buddhists. She is able to discuss matters like one's previous existence with them. From a Biblical viewpoint, there is only the pursuit of eternal life and no mention is ever made of transmigration. Nnadia had once asked her pastor some questions regarding transmigration. He was very shocked and in turn asked her if she did not fear not entering heaven. She dared not ask him such questions again. Fortunately, she is able to discuss these issues with more open-minded Christians. Nnadia is no longer uncertain. She has even gone a step further in that she now believes she lived in the Middle East in her previous life. She had felt a sense of closeness to the area when she read Bible stories as a child. She once went to Egypt on a work assignment and experienced a sense of homecoming and such affinity for the sand, soil and rock when she was there. She thus firmly believes her close connection to that land. Upon returning to Hong Kong, she continued to pursue her interest in the region. When cc first wrote the lyrics for a song, it was one brought back from the Middle East. Plans for her next album include a self-composition that would reflect this pursuit of Middle Eastern ideas and culture. It appears that she is serious and not merely having fun. 121 Peace Day Nnadia has found happiness and left her days of misery far behind her. She wants her positive outlook on life to spread far and wide . " Some people blame the media for shirking its responsibility in educating the youths . I am part of the media and will take up this responsibility. " Can small Nnadia be a big educator? Who would expect her to go so far as to make the above comment? Nnadia who aspired to be an astronomer when young modestly admits that she is an insignificant person. However, she understands that people can influence one another. She does not want to evade her responsibility. Instead, she intends to influence the people around her, especially her young fans, by doing small things. In a just-concluded birthday party, cc and her fans agreed to set aside January 21 as " 121 Peace Day ". It would be a day in which everyone would not be anxious but be happy and live in harmony. When the kids first heard this , they felt a little awkward. What was unexpected was the parents' approval of the idea. This is truly encouraging. This may be Nandia's first attempt at being a teacher but it is certainly a decent and competent effort. Nnadia desires world peace. Of course, she knows that this is a dream. " As far as work is concerned, I do not have very high expectations. I only hope that what I do will not take the form of something negative. On the contrary, I hope the world will become better and that what the prophets say will not come true. Yet I know that things in this world can go against one's wishes and that the world is imperfect and may not be what one wants it to be." Nnadia sees earthquakes, wars and train derailment on television as she watches the news. Such scenes scare her and she cannot bear to watch them. She feels deeply when faced with such tragic events yet she exhibits an immaturity of wanting to escape from it - like the way in which she confronts her childhood. I do not doubt that Nnadia really desires a world that is beautiful and that at the same time, she fears that it may be too much to ask for such a world to exist. Doing good When Nnadia was busy having her photographs taken, her foster sisiter told us a story concerning a fan of Nnadia's. This fan was actually the mother of Chung Chung's young fan. The daughter was a very devoted fan and often wrote to cc. As a parent, she did not quite approve and did not understand her daughter. One day, the mother discovered that she was suffering from cancer. She suddenly realised that her daughter was her closest kin and decided to experience doing something with her. As such, she joined her daughter, whilst in her sick-bed, in writing to Nnadia. She became more open-minded and slowly became Nnadia's fan and friend. The spread of her cancerous cells slowly abated and life continues for her. Not everyone can succeed at doing good. Nnadia believes that one should not give up on looking squarely at reality and living a positive life. Doing good requires more than just having the intention to do good. However, it appears that having a character and spirit of an angel may result in one unconsciously doing good. Nnadia is one such case. |
